Originality Is Overrated In Animation

You know, when it comes to liking a certain part of animation, you usually like something 2D, 3D, Stop Motion, or something I'm not usually a fan of, abstract animation but we all tend to like it for the other parts that make the animation style charming, like the humor, the characters, the designs, and the backgrounds. But sometimes people fight over that everything is the same when it comes to an animation style.

Tom and Jerry and Herman and Katnip both have the cat and mouse formula, and have the same type of name title. However, the characters and formula they have in their characteristics is different.

Disney for example has been making movies with stories they did not originally make, even in cases like The Lion King (1994) where there was controversy that they ripped off Kimba The White Lion (1965).

In fact Disney's movie career has been a part of plagiarism ever since the first movie, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937). But there's a good side with these movies. They became a part of Disney's wholesomeness, the characters were really recognizable and fun, and whether you like it or not, Disney makes these stories that they didn't make, come alive and warm our hearts to this day and see the original story and as perspective of our generations. Not all of them are amazing but their not outright stealing all of its creative power.

Originality is also not provided by inspiration but inspiration can be so handy for animators alike especially with one of my favorite cartoons, Looney Tunes. Looney Tunes has had extreme inspiration for classic Disney and classic comedians. It's a good way to watch some of the all-time greats and make something similar to it and somehow making it work.

The characters I made is an army solider fox and a roaring 20s styled lion. And I managed to draw them really well. Thanks to Tex Avery's Wolf and Slap Happy Lion.

An important lesson in wanting to draw characters, sometimes inspiration can help improve your skill and draw more better. I mainly drawn all my characters without tracing. Even when it comes to watching more of the great cartoons, comedy, and growing up by age.

Here's a character I made that feels totally original and critics or people who are mental to new and unfamiliar ideas will love it. It's a character you'll never see again, his personality is hmmm, over-the-top? Nah that's been used before, nice? No, totally not. And what's important is that he has a name no-one will ever have! I hated drawing this if you were unaware.

Tom from Tom and Jerry, blegh! That's a totally unoriginal name. That cat will never be loved and famous. He actually did. In fact famous characters everyone loves around the world do not form with originality.

Very cool, huh? Bugs Bunny wouldn't been very interesting if it wasn't for his inspirations.

I wouldn't say Originality is extremely overrated. Sometimes when there is something original and inventive, it can be really fun and good for a experience. But there is no way you should be going around and complaining too much even if it's not considered a ripoff. The creators are destined to keep their talent shining as long as they can and make something really interesting.

Until next time, I will be talking about a cartoon I loved the first time and still love to this day. It's a cartoon that changed my life.
