Last week I wanted to give 7 Disney movies a second chance.
I finally watched most of the films I wanted to revisit but it's only 5 of them. I have the original ratings for reference.
Sword In The Stone (1963)
Original Rating - 7/10
Updated Rating - 9.5/10
Remember how I said the second time I was going to watch this film, this wasn't going to be a great experience? I was wrong. This film has one of the most creative plot scenarios I ever seen in a classic Disney movie. Which is why I totally missed out on the introduction the first time I watched it. I guess that's why I considered it nonsensical, but now I can totally understand where it was coming from.
Not only that but the characters are all really likeable. Merlin and Archimedes in particular are absolutely hilarious. I love their logical, understanding personalities. This film also has alot of interesting colors, the final fight with the most powerful wizards, Merlin and Mim was great, and the entire premise is simple yet wonderful.
Now there is some obvious flaws I have with the film, but it's only a brief minor nitpick, and that's the re-used animation, but it's not too bad, and I can understand the entire production behind it. But otherwise, this is a classic, and is one of Disney's most underrated films ever made.
Original Rating - 9.5/10
Updated Rating - 7.5/10
This movie I have mixed feelings towards, for one thing I still like some of the characters, Buck Cluck is still a relatable father, and I do like the little alien, Kirby and the humor is definitely great. But the story kinda sucks. I could've wished this movie had more of a real, down-to earth premise.
I dislike the Henny Penny story and this one doesn't hit me as well, not to mention it was an actual misunderstanding. I also felt really sorry for Chicken Little at the start for negative reasons. There's this certain trope I hate the most in films, and that's the Butt-Monkey, it's been a trend ever since, and I always found it mean-spirited, and unfunny. It also does tend to have annoying characters as well, but like I said with my first thoughts, I still enjoyed the baseball scene, and to be honest not every character is that bad.
Robin Hood (1973)
Original Rating - 8/10
Updated Rating - 9/10
When I first watched this film, I thought it was alright, but alot of it didn't leave me impressed, it was such a lucky chance for me to watch it the second time because I seemingly love it alot more. I mean, it's definitely better than Aristocats. I admired the whole story and the characters were fun. Friar Tuck in particular is one of Disney's funniest characters and I related to alot of his lines and personality. I also liked the villains. The Sheriff Of Nottingham in my opinion is far more evil than Prince John. I also have a little appreciation for the backgrounds. They give me Little Critter vibes. The songs as well were also great to listen to, Love in particular is one of Disney's best songs period. While I do still stand my opinion on the re-used animation on the Phony King Of England sequence, I also thought it was kinda necessary because of the energy of the song. Anyways this is a very good movie, and I would highly recommend you watching it.
Alice In Wonderland (1951)
Original Rating - 9/10
Updated Rating - 8/10
I was originally not going to be planning on revisiting this film, but I honestly wanted to give it another go because it felt like forever ago since I last watched it, and to be honest with you, I'm glad I did because in my opinion, this was worse than when I first watched it, now not to say this is a bad movie at all, but I didn't think it was as exciting or fun as I hoped it would be. This film is interesting, but that's really all I have to say, it's just fine. I do relate to some of the more logical characters, like Alice, The White Rabbit, March Hare and The Mad Hatter but honestly, all the other characters were just straight up boring to me. It's surprising because this film tends to be wacky, and surreal, but I'm growing out of stuff like this, it would've worked alot better as a short film. I would also kinda complain about the more melodramatic bits like when Alice gets caught up by all the trouble especially with the annoying door knob and caterpillar bits but everything else about this movie was just decent enough for me to be amused. I did like the opening scene, it looked so beautiful, and the ending was definitely enjoyable as well. But this is definitely a Disney movie I don't consider watching over and over again, it's just too nonsensical as it genuinely is in my taste.
I decided that my opinions on Snow White and Tangled were going to stay continual. I was originally going to revisit Tangled but I've decided that the rating is fine for what it is, that being 8.5. I do have to say that my opinions on both these films have been slightly different. I think Snow White is still a masterful animated film with great characters and story-telling, and while I tried to re-watch Tangled, I started to love the humorous personality of Flynn Rider alot more, he may be my favorite Disney princes.
