Are These 10 Looney Tunes Shorts Good?

Ah, Looney Tunes. Your legendary, timeless antics will never be forgotten.

Anyways, on this post I'm going to be reviewing and talk about what I think about these 10 iconic cartoons that almost every person seems to think is one of the very best Looney Tunes shorts of all time.

Most of them are remembered for their legendary musical segments, memorable dialogue and some considered to be meme-worthy.

9 of these mentioned are Chuck Jones.

Yeah. Chuck Jones to me was always interesting. He isn't my favorite animated directors ever but there's alot more good to him than bad. For the most part I love his 40s-50s cartoons, the characters he made were unique and funny, but sometimes he can go for a cartoon that's deemed a little too cruel, slow paced, and redundant like Fresh Airedale, Angel Puss, Now Hear This, the late 50s-early 60s Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons and Mad As A Mars Hare.

But let's not talk about all of those stinkers, let's dive right into the 10 cartoons most people or as so Looney Tunes fans enjoy best.

One Froggy Evening (1955)

Is this cartoon good?

The answer is yes, it really is. What can I say about it? It's a genuine masterpiece. I would say I would put it at Top 30 best in my opinion. When I was on my journey watching every single Looney Tune in order, I remember this being the one I actually laughed at. Usually I don't laugh easily while watching cartoons, but man this one was on another level of comedic.
The plot is this, a person discovers a singing frog named Michigan J Frog and he's trying to find talent with it.
I wouldn't say it's one of the funniest Looney Tunes Shorts in my opinion but it's a timeless cartoon that I would highly recommend you watching.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is Top 5.

Duck Amuck (1953)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is obviously yes. This cartoon is impeccable. It's probably jerkish Daffy at his best. I may like screwball Daffy more but this Daffy can get good, I'll promise you that.
I love the genre of which a cartoon character is breaking the 4th wall especially where the character is dealing with the artist. It's such a genius concept I'm shocked it hasn't been done in literally every cartoon franchise. It never gets old.
It's easily my Top 20 for sure.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is the #1 best.

Rabbit Of Seville (1950)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is yes, but in my opinion I would say it's nothing special. I love how fast paced and sharp the animation is at times, and having the barber of seville song in here is perfect and fits Looney Tunes really well. I have nothing else to say it's perfectly good if not astounding at least in my taste.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is either Top 8-10.

Feed The Kitty (1952)

Is this cartoon good?

The answer is... kinda? I mean it's definitely good but I wouldn't say this is the magnum-opus for Looney Tunes. I certainly think Marc Anthony is an annoying character in my opinion, and for a cartoon so beloved, it actually re-uses animation at the end of the cartoon but I like how cute and smart it is. There are some clever scenes and some funny expressions in here. I would say 8/10 at best.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is mixed between the top 10 or just somewhere random, even though web users really love this one alot.

Rabbit Fire (1951)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is yes. I love this cartoon and the one I vividly remember growing up with. It's one of the first Looney Tunes Shorts I ever seen mostly because it's one of the most well known cartoons in the Looney Tunes franchise. It's got sharp and memorable gags, Bugs and Daffy fighting never gets old and man does this cartoon look beautiful. I would say I would rank this at Top 30 as well like with One Froggy Evening.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is Top 5 or Top 15.

Porky In Wackyland (1938)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is yes, but I was also going to say eh. Yeah, this cartoon isn't one of Clampett's gems. I do have to say, this cartoon is so creative and silly that I can relate to Porky Pig in this. I also really like some of the references like the three stooges and the Warner Bros. shield out of nowhere, but I would say the dodo bird chase wasn't really that thrilling to me and the ending wasn't really that good? But I'm being a little too harsh, after all it's just my opinion and I love how I don't highly enjoy these beloved cartoons. Still this cartoon is good. Giving it a solid 8.5/10.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is Top 11-20.

The Dover Boys At Pimento University Or The Rivals Of Roquefort Hall (1942)

Is this cartoon good?

The answer is HECK YES. I forgotten about this one so much, I adore this film. It's easily Top 12 next to Hot Cross Bunny and Duck Amuck. Dan Backslide is a hilarious villain, and the gags are all funny. The entire environment was absolutely stunning and witty, and it's so fast paced without feeling too incoherent.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is Top 15.

Long-Haired Hare (1949)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is, yeah it's alright. In my own personal viewing of this cartoon, the introduction is kinda filler and does go on too long, but when it starts, it doesn't turn off and Giovanni Jones's singing is absolutely hilarious when he holds in his vocals for a long time. It's a really good film if not a one I want to keep on coming back to.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is Top 10-15.

Duck Dodgers In The 24 1/2th Century (1953)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is uh, yeah it truly is. I would've wished the fight with Daffy and Marvin would've been more massive and more energetic but other than that, this is a hilarious space themed cartoon that has some of the most underrated gags in the history of Looney Tunes and has some cool effects like when Duck Dodgers says the main title of the cartoon. I would say its not a 10/10 it's a 9.5/10 at best.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is either their best cartoon or Top 2-5.

And finally

What's Opera Doc? (1957)
Is this cartoon good?

The answer is...

No.

Okay I'm kidding just a little bit, but I'm not gonna lie, this cartoon gets way too much recognition and love I just don't get it. If you love it I totally understand but it's just one of those cartoons where I say, it's interesting. It's cool. But I just gotta say Bugs Bunny didn't really pull off singing really well at opera. Mel Blanc is usually fantastic with Bugs Bunny singing, but here it's nothing really special and it kinda doesn't hold up to me to this day. I swear Disney characters sing way better than this. Best part is that I thought the effects were kinda decent and the ending was absolutely hilarious, other than that this one to me is just watchable.

Best estimate of what people rank this one is at #1 or Top 3.

Well. I'm done going through the 10 cartoons.
I certainly enjoyed reviewing all of them. Some I think are my favorites and the rest are just nothing special and sorta watchable, but hey that's Chuck Jones in my personal taste.

The cartoons I would say are my 10 best are probably some of your guy's favorites too. But if your really wanting to see what I think are the best, then you should copy this link and find my list interesting.
