On The Town was my #1 favorite movie until today I saw Hellzapoppin'. This film is the most hilarious cinematic achievements ever made.
Every single line of dialogue, the characters, the songs are all impeccable, it goes to show you that these cast of characters fit my humorous style very well as well as my view of creativity and life. I'm all for the breaking the 4th wall, and silly but reliable characters.
There's lots to love about Hellzapoppin, some of these gags might've been influenced by Avery and other comedic animation directors. My favorites are the projector bits mainly the ones starring Louie played by Shemp Howard, I'm also beginning to really enjoy Hugh Herbert's character.
The gags, slapstick and moments were absolutely fun, it's what I admire about comedic geniuses like Tex Avery.
When I was also watching the projector bits from the movie, it reminded me alot of Duck Amuck, and that cartoon is hilarious. I was extremely critical with Chuck Jones's work back then but now I'm really invested in his style, especially in the early 40s to 50s. He was absoutely fantastic in those decades.
I could recall almost every moment in Duck Amuck, heck even Looney Tunes fans may agree with me. It's easily one of the most influential films of all time.
What do you think about these characters? Do they feel like they fit perfectly into story-telling, reliable narrative, and spirited energy just like the films and actors I enjoy most?
In my personal opinion, I think they really do. I made all these characters for a reason, I didn't want to scribble and draw random crap to send to the public, I took my time to make them look simple, yet lively and memorable as possible.
