Best Decades

You know how people always think to themselves they would watch something that feels special to them, maybe it's something old, but they've wished to be living in that decade?

Some people might say the 80s, the 60s, the 70s, to me it would be the 40s.

This is why the 1940s was the greatest

BIG BANDS!

WACKY CARTOONS!

MUSICAL MOVIES!

THE MODEST FASHION!

Everything about this decade was fantastic. But what about other decades?

I love the 1930s too. So does the 50s, every other decade is good but not as powerful. That being said I think alot of good has happened after the golden age of entertainment passed on, but man the 30s to the 50s, were probably the best the entire world has to offer.

When I watch an old film, I like how more logical and sensible the characters and actions are. This was also the course where things start to get even funnier.

Throughout the course of the early 20th century, films were silent, and you couldn't even get the knowledge of laughing too much or relating to the characters.

The late 20s, to early 30s, everyone was talkin' and it became more lively and natural.

There was a potential rise to cartoons as well. There were a few exceptions to cartoons back then like Out Of The Inkwell, and Winsor McCay's shorts but that's it really.

There was strong characters in the 30s through the 50s. Every character that is still considered popular today was created this period of the century.

I'll name a few characters

Bugs Bunny

Porky Pig

Goofy

Donald Duck

José Carioca

Foghorn Leghorn

Droopy

Man, I would've lived my whole life expecting something fresh and iconic more commonly than today. Disney Movies were a big exception by the 30s-40s.

The reason why I think the later Disney movies don't do much to me anymore it's because of the amount of dialogue you have to be awake to.

This is Bambi, a movie that barely has any dialogue whatsoever. Sure, it does have some speaking in it, but it isn't stuffed with drama too often. Not to mention that the calm and quiet environments is what makes a movie focus.

I imagined Artmania especially my TV show to have dancing scenes and music just like the classics because you just can't beat THE CLASSICS!

When I worked on Artmania's Spirit Of Christmas last December, one post I payed tribute to the big bands like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Tommy Dorsey. With all those unique and stylish names, I created band leader, Vinn Kringle.

What happened to this type of music? Where did it go?

I seem to think every musician and song I love best doesn't get the impact and recognition they really deserve anymore. I know we have to move forward, but it really staggers me that for such a chaotic world we're living in right now, I can't see why the most calm piece of entertainment is hidden by most people. I mean it's free to experience and explore around.
YouTube isn't all about content farms and trends you know.

If your a fan of classics and both exploring social media, you would know you shouldn't be afraid to search random clips of talents and performances. You don't have to pay online for movies if you don't want to, you can just freely experience around 2-5 minutes of fun.

Speak for yourself.

The Andrews Sisters were special to me. I remember first experiencing and listening to their biggest hits, and something about these three just felt easy to appreciate and they had a sense of humor mostly when they were on screen.

Attractiveness

There was something so unique about how people looked and dressed like back in the golden age of hollywood.

Judy Garland is one of those actresses that shine just the way you look at the fashion, and style. I truly love her, her singing voice is full of beauty.

The Amount Of Funny Stuff You'll Get

I watched a few Three Stooges shorts lately and I think it's one of the most hilarious series of entertainment I ever seen.

If you get the outlandish speech given with one of the characters, you'll easily find it more normal to experience. The jokes and gags felt more creative and simple back then.
Tex Avery for example would add a sign to one of his cartoons and I always found those to be hilarious since it's a sign of reality.
I also think this is how comedy should work and not a bunch of horrendously bad celebrity roasts and shock value.

Drawn Energy

I call it this because these films can easily get stuck in your mind, and whenever your playing a song that sounds groovy to listen to, you can draw your mind into the classic animated movements of characters or real people dancing along with the song.

Remember The Three Caballeros? I usually have those dance scenes drawn into me even ever since I first watched them.

This is one of my favorite scenes from that movie.

You see movie posters nowadays, they look good, but they're kinda lazy in terms of the cast of characters.

When I look at these, it just warms my heart because artists back then used their artistic skills to paint all these people and advertise it.

This is me bringing back that old-school spirit.

The best decades of all time relate to my drawing style and perspective of how I view creativity and knowledge.

I hope you all liked what I enjoy about these decades and their wonderful chemistry of entertainment and timeless value.

Happy Birthday Tex Avery!

Today marks the 117th birthday of one of my heroes, he did everything he could to entertain millions of people including me.

Tex Avery wasn't only just an animator, he was a very influential person. I admire almost every single one of his MGM cartoons because they changed how I experience humor, also note the expressions given in one of these cartoons are fantastic.

I would assure to say that he's more powerful than Disney. That may not be an agreement with you guys, but to me I had alot of fun watching all his short films.

Not only did his expressions influence my drawing style, but so does his straightforward, chaotic and zany nature.

Why I Respect Tex Avery

Hey, I gotta appreciate and love other people besides my parents. Tex Avery was an exaggerated genius who loved breaking the 4th wall at times. I love to draw and his characters are too easy to steal and use, and like I said in a previous post, he isn't too keen on adding filler to his cartoons. Barely any dialogue is added, and if it does, it makes sense so does other classic studios.

While Avery hasn't been with us for 45 years, I don't want anyone to forget about this amazing person for a very long time. He's truly one of the best people in the entertainment industry.

Wanna experience some goodies in honor to pay tribute?

Here's some funny clips

One of my favorites as of now!

Iconic song!

Love this one too! The bear's performance is hilarious.

His work at Warner Bros. is severely underrated, this is my favorite Looney Tunes cartoon by his and has the most hilarious character in it voiced by Tex himself!

In appreciation I made a drawing with one of my main characters.

Happy Birthday Tex Avery, your a legend, and you'll never be missed. 🎉 🥕

Dutcher and Ben Obvious - The World Around Them

Dutcher is not only just a cartoon character, he's a man of heart, and the most grounded personality you'll ever see with one of my drawings.

These are some of his facial expressions I made over the course of a few weeks ago. They may look simple, but when you think about it, there's more important characteristics to him than just him lip-syncing.

I made this fella in December of 2021. There, he looked much different. I made him more dumber, he didn't have any clothes, and no range of personality yet, so as Ben Obvious.

When it came to redesigning him, I already had an approach to exploring other various of media, like classic hollywood and how fresh and straightforward it really was, so it became my only type of entertainment for a bit.

I made Dutcher more of an optimistic neighbor to a roommate who knows what they're doing more than the actual guy we're rooting for.

This is me trying to make Dutcher rotate his head for the first time like a model sheet or those Preston Blair heads, I need to step up my gain because Dutcher's scenes have alot of angles to them.

Before I get into actual Dutcher and Ben Obvious territory, I created a few sketches of human designs that I researched through the internet.

It's inspired by those 80s cartoon shows everyone seems to hate, but I don't. Seriously, it's appealing to me, and it doesn't matter if they don't move cartoony, they look really well-drawn.

As every film progresses, they usually talk down what they like to do today and plan out for the possible.

Look at how different both of these characters are in this drawing. I'm trying to obtain the best of what I like in cartoons. I'm not an expert at making deep, and emotional sense characters, but that what I don't want in my cartoons. I think it's used way too much nowadays.

Sure, I'm not excepting every cartoon character to have an original and strong personality of course I wouldn't but for being the protagonist of your cartoon, you need to have some sorta impact somehow.

What I love about putting these two together into a life changing product is that you can freely know what can happen or what you can expect because just like us humans, the Artmania World is much like Earth but has more cartoon aspects that make you believe you want to actually go there.

Every cartoon character had an episode where it took place in the snow, so why not Dutcher and Ben Obvious take a time to observe and see what nature is most known for.

Man, these guys are going to be loved immediately if I continue to talk them out too much.

Here's Dutcher looking pleased with Ben's fruitcake. Yes no kidding.

Their next attempt is for Dutch to cheer up Traggedy Hobbs.

What I love about Donald Duck's personality in his early cartoons is that he has a trait that not alot of characters usual master for and that is short-temper.

Charlie Dog is another example of a character that doesn't deserve the hate, I mean come on, he had literally one of the best concepts for his character I ever seen. He's desired to find a master, not only that but his dialogue is priceless. People are rooting for Sylvester and Coyote more than this guy.

I'm willing to talk about more cartoon characters and other inspirations from the real world I would like to go over but you'll have to wait till a post like that comes out.

For now, Dutcher is our modern leader of command.

The concepts of mostly all the shorts these guys value for is talking about random crap they observed. Just like with every series, there is one similar setting that strictly has to stay in and that's always make it start in the late afternoon because that's when Dutcher leaves work and comes to the house.

Maybe in one episode, Dutcher would just go inaudible like when he makes this quirky face.

If your trying to make a comedy, the words shouldn't be the only thing that's funny. I know that's what most directors and filmmakers want us to do, but that's not the point.

My statement is that comedy isn't just words. There's specific ideas and novelty behind it that's has some comedic value to it like it's film title.

But most importantly, the facial expressions.

This is what I'm going to get with these drawings when they're going to end up being animated like the late 40s Looney Tunes cartoons that I personally love best.

These drawings I made are too good to be barely animated. I want to make them animated but when your getting to see that one animated frame, it's honestly distracting and entertaining in of itself.

Dutcher's Strengths

If you read through all of this so far, you know you love Dutcher so I'll continue to explain more about this lovable, handsome and eloquent being.

I love to draw to him smiling, when I drew this I immediately felt it under my bones. Him and his friend are still, but why? Because that's what's best in life, your mind should be valued.

Daydreaming in your thoughts has to be the best thing to ever exist in life, because if you don't have any time to draw or scroll on the internet while in class, you can still have unlimited ego inside yourself. Sometimes I'd like to talk inside instead of out loud.

What I love about Ren and Stimpy as characters is that each one is insane and the other is just goofy and foolish but they both can act chaotic. Besides those ugly, grotesque slow scenes you have to get through, this show is otherwise my 2nd favorite Nicktoon and feels rather challenged and gives you the chills everytime you watch it.

Just like with every timeless and active personality, they can be in whatever event they choose.

When I was watching alot of the classic cartoons, I always felt absorbed and felt more enjoyed with the ideas that never have been used in other cartoons. Seeing a character wear the same amount of clothes feels illogical to me.

I think cartoons were the best for it's variety of characters and different perspectives. It's like a new book you haven't read yet, it's like a genre.
Obviously animation isn't a genre but for it's use of concepts and character development I can't see why you should be afraid to let that type of fun go.

Bugs Bunny and Napoleon has to be the most unexpected trope I ever seen in my life.

I think that's enough Dutcher and Ben Obvious for one day.

Let's all know that honesty is a real thing.

My 2 New Favorite People

I'm always on the go looking for new things to explore especially in terms of art. So I explored two new names I recently kept tracked of.

First is James Swinnerton.

I've seen this drawing before, I just had no idea who actually made it until now. He's really good at painting landscapes as well, but I'm really here to focus rather on his characters and comics.

I admire alot of his character designs. It's probably the cutest thing I ever seen in my life.

I find cute to be better than unappealing and creepy because it can really warm your heart in the best possible ways.

Apparently there was a Canyon Kiddies cartoon Chuck Jones made at Warner Bros. These illustrations are much better in my opinion.

James Swinnerton was overlooked and forgotten in the worst ways possible. SERIOUSLY! This person is an absolute legend. Look at these memorable designs.

The simple circled heads, I adore it.

Not every character in this picture have a strong personality, but all of them have such a unique and stylish design.

These backgrounds here are what I'm striving for when I'm making my own cartoons. They all don't have to look like Disney quality, but these colors, my goodness, these colors are absolutely gorgeous.

Mr. Jack is probably my favorite series of comics recently.

These were made around the 1900s-1920s. Everyone back then looked handsome and attractive, more than I thought at first glance.

The sizes of the entire strip are more gigantic than most daily comic strips today where everything is squished in and not all that fun to look at.

With everything going on in the world right now, there is still a chance to make something as beautiful and simple as James Swinnerton's art like here with the black leopard. It may not be as levels as something like The Star Wars franchise or Marvel, but it's still easy for you to get into something if your time feels wasted.

Even for something as cute and refreshing as the old stuff.

I have other comic artists I love and care for.

George Herriman's Krazy Kat comics are simple yet sketchy and joyous. All of the main characters have an amusing personality.

Winsor McCay's comics have such an interesting yet full of spirit to them. I may like his films better, but you can't beat these in terms of how imaginative these ideas can be.

Normally I don't go too into depth with these artists because some of their work can be too jumbled, but in terms of style and perspective, these artists are influential for numerous of reasons. It's probably because for the most occasions, they work hard and put in the most detail than any other illustrator out there.

Take something popular besides comics and sue, and add a favorite cartoon like Looney Tunes. Sure, not every cartoon was good in their repertoire but you can constantly remember and love most of the main characters like Bugs, Daffy, and Porky Pig for specific reasons. Each of them having marvelous and lively personalities, straightforward but down-to-earth played scenarios and action-packed scenes that you'll never see done in real life. I was so floored when I first saw these cartoons at 13, and knew they were the biggest inspiration for many artists like me to come.

I already talked about what my animation appeal fits best, and my 2nd best option was Classic Disney mostly the ones in the 30s to 40s.

There will never be another animated scene like the Brer Fox scenes in Song Of The South ever again. Which is why they're one of my favorites.

I have the references talked here.

Now let's take a look at J.C Leyendecker, because this guy rules.

Leyendecker has to be the most observant artists in the early 20th century. He visioned so much on the planet Earth, he packed all of the good elements into one, like fashion, humans, and colors.

This is a good example on how society was back in the past. It's not pushing onto conservative efforts like politics and war and just goes straight into a normal day in people's own lives.

Half of your time daily is following your heart doing what you want to do. This really shows something when this picture here was made back in 1933, it has alot of warm and cheerful colors like those dots.

Just like with Swinnerton's drawings, Leyendecker's cute style is really sweet and appealing. I love the red, black color palette to this one, it was at a time where not every color you used was exceptional.

The best type of paintings I love from J.C is when he adds the additional black backgrounds making it more classy and cinematic.

These are all modest and fancy. It's more appropriate to me than any other field of art nowadays. Classics relatively had more novelty and more creative aspects making for a more juicy and sharp product.

Friday Out On The Farm

Today was an interesting day, I went out and went to a farm, shopping and got pumpkins. I was drawing concepts of an actual mascot to the ...
