Saturday Shopping IV

 

It's been a while. Last November to be exact, but today I went out to toycon again to buy some cool goodies! 

First up is Frankenstein's Monster and his Bride. Bride Of The Frankenstein is my favorite Universal classic monster movie. Everything about it is SO GOOD.  These plushies sure are cute.

Next is this super cool vintage vinyl Porky Pig. 

I'm not much of a jewelry person, but necklaces are fine. I really like this Winnie The Pooh one dressed as a cowboy.

Ey, why not another Pooh collectible. I like these. I used to have a Space Jam Bugs, but I think I got rid of it. It's Tigger.

There wasn't that much DVDs at toycon which is understandable but I got a Criterion Collection called Vampyr. A Carl Theodor Dreyer film. He also directed Passion Of Joan Of Arc. So this film could be insane, also I barely have any Three Stooges merch, only a graphic tee shirt, but I really like this Moe toy. Nice blue and white polka dot tie.

Adore me some Toy Story so I bought Woody. 

Speaking of graphic tees, this amazing Donald Duck shirt referencing one of his 1940s cartoons. 

And finally, the coolest thing I bought. A Bing Crosby Gemmy animatronic. So cool it still has batteries to play his singing. This was only 30 dollars and was worth it.

Color Palettes from Vintage Art and Animation

 

Here's some covers from covers, adverts and animated sequences that have great color styling to them.

I love the old Looney Tunes comic illustrations, they can be pretty funny but mainly I'm focusing on the interesting color palette to this one.

The sky has an interesting scheme of blues, and greens.

Here's another Porky Pig comic issue. I like the almost minimal black background, and the yellow word font. 

These 4 sets of colors are for better term "classic colors" they're natural and pleasent.

Now for a cartoon! This is from 1951's Plutopia. This cartoon is equally stunning and underrated, but I definitely like the more grounded moments throughout the film. 

The actual picture has an interesting color for the grass. I seemingly like it. 

This is a Coca-Cola advert from 1936. 

Here's a rare WWII cartoon starring Donald Duck in The Spirit of '43. The colors look so oddly different in this cartoon but I love it, it fits my personality very well. Again I like the limited black background and well-drawn pose given in this frame.

These are only the colors to the Zoot Suit Duck's outfit. The color palette to his fashion is very appealing and warm.

The last picture for now is a stellar shot from One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961). I promise I will talk more about this film more often because the colors, the backgrounds, the designs are all visually stunning and memorable, I also like the laid-back and modern feel of this film. 

Sometimes limited colors are the most appropriate. The bottom layer is the shadowing.

Drip-Along Daffy (1951) An Absolute Classic

 

What's Opera Doc, get outta here! 

Chuck Jones had made some very solid cartoons and some cartoons were managed to make it on my favorites list. 

Bugs' Bonnets (1956)

Awful Orphan (1949)

Duck Amuck (1953)

Little Brother Rat (1939)

My Bunny Lies Over The Sea (1948)

8 Ball Bunny (1950)

Drip-Along Daffy has to be my favorite out of all of his shorts he made over the course of 25 years in the classic Looney Tunes Era. There's alot of reason to explain how I highly enjoyed it. 

It starts off with Porky Pig singing and it's already off to an amazing start. 

There's a really funny gag that credits the two main roles Daffy and Porky play. 

Next is a look at the different places in The Lawless Western Town. Very cool.

Now this is where it really begins. Our Western-Type Hero kicks the swinging doors at the saloon. 

This is one of Daffy's best moments yet where he starts to grab his guns but at that, he pulls it way too hard that his pants get loose and the pants stick together with the guns. It's silly and impeccable. 

Also there's this moment where Daffy is still talking to everyone but all of them are not paying attention. The expressions that Daffy makes in this scene are funny.

So as this one. 

Nasty Canasta needs more recognition because he's one of the best bad guys Chuck Jones ever made. Far more better than Gossamer and Marvin The Martian in my opinion.

More amazing expressions here. 

As well as Nasty Canasta's gurgle effect when he drinks and his hat when it flips. 

Daffy literally goes zany-mode and walks mechanically and after that another influential animation scene sees Daffy's bullets on his belt shoot down the floor and falls.

Daffy pretty much insists a fight with Nasty Canasta outside but when that happens Comedy Relief Porky builds a toy solider. Canasta laughs at it, but then in a hilarious attempt, the solider actually uses the momentum to shoot him in the face and hilariously falls. Such a great moment.

Back then I didn't get the joke how Porky won instead of Daffy. But I actually get it now because it you take this out of context, Daffy felt like he was a background character, just walking like he's peaceful going with the flow and not involved with the fight, after all Porky made the toy and defeated Canasta. That's so clever and a funny way to end it. 

In conclusion, Porky is now the town's sheriff. He looks so fresh, and this picture sends off a vibe. And as for Daffy-

He's a sanitation worker. That means he's cleaning the town all up. Man, Daffy and Porky are the best together. 

And that's it. An absolute masterpiece, this cartoon I did think was just ok when I first watched it but it grown on me and I loved it all the more, for it's expressions, line delivery, and really appreciated characters. Nasty Canasta is one of those characters I want to see more in future Looney Tunes projects. He's too perfect.
