War-Time Era Of Disney Movies (1942-1949) RANKED!

It is that time, I officially watched every War-Time Disney movie. All 6 of them.

This era was filled with a bunch of package films that helped Disney with their company especially Saludos Amigos. I also thought this era was underrated to me. Alot of people seem to HATE it. But I liked it. I think the characters were more lively and the variety of different segments in a few of these movies were interesting too.

So like you all expected just like with my Golden Age ranking, I will rank these from Worst To Best.

Let's get started.

6

Saludos Amigos (1942)

This is the shortest Disney featured length movie running at 42 minutes. And also there's a bit of fun facts to this movie that makes this interesting. This movie was made during a time where Disney was struggling during war and was given to federal guarantees and so this was shorter due to the decreased resources they had.

Anyways, let's get into my actual thoughts. It's alright. It's got some nice exploration behind it and the final bit with Donald and José is alot of fun. I have nothing else to say than it just has amazing animation, nice backgrounds and good character development.

Fun And Fancy Free (1947)

Another forgotten but underrated movie that I definitely enjoyed. Jiminy Cricket is back and funny as ever, the 2 stories were really fun and I liked Dinah Shore's songs. Yes. This era had alot of famous musicians to voice themselves in movies and I think that's cool.

Let's first start off with the first story, Bongo. I found this to be cute and relaxing. The part where the gang of bears dance in a line is such a stellar bit. It's just a fun romance and comedic short.

Mickey And The Beanstalk was also really enjoyable. Seeing Mickey Donald and Goofy pair up after a few years was a fantastic decision. And Billy Gilbert as The Giant was hilarious.

I can tell you I was invested and smiling while watching this film. It's that good.

Melody Time (1948)

This is the 2nd Disney film involving music. Don't worry we'll get to the 1st one in just a moment. And I have to admit it, it's a really cool idea to have a ton of music videos put into a feature film. And this ones pretty good. I thought all of the songs were really memorable. My favorite one has to be Pecos Bill because it has a live action segment and a really expressive main protagonist. It's so cool seeing such talents like The Andrews Sisters in this movie.

Make Mine Music (1946)

This to me is Melody Time but it has better music segments. I do equally like both of these movies but I had more love to these scenes than in the ones in Melody Time. Not only that but there's more songs as well. Now when I got the DVD, there wasn't the Martins and The Coys segment which disappointed me. I was able to watch a copy of it on YouTube and I think it was the best one. I can list the other scenes I love, Alice Bluebonnet and Johnny Fedora just because of The Andrews Sisters and All The Cats Join In.

I just admire 40s music and this being released in 1946 makes it all the more enjoyable. I definitely think this should be watched.

9.5/10

2

The Three Caballeros (1945)

What can I say? This is a masterpiece. The reasons why I enjoy this so much it's because there is so much dancing, groovy music and beautiful scenery. Donald is one my favorite cartoon characters and José and Panchito are excellent too. I do have to admit, the 2 stories don't mesh together and they aren't as entertaining as the real good stuff but I still liked it. This movie has had alot of inspiration on me for months and just seeing cartoon characters in live action is always a good thing.

10/10

And finally the best war-time era disney movie is...

1

The Adventures Of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)

This is by far the best Disney movies I ever seen. It's one of the first Disney films I ever fully experienced and that's saying alot. Every character is impeccable, all 2 of the stories are masterpieces. The Wind In The Willows is extremely hilarious and has a cute protagonist and The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow is just gorgeous. What makes this even more watchable than the other movies is that Bing Crosby is in this film as a narrator and his songs are all fantastic. There are multiple scenes like the train and the headless horseman in this movie that can keep you invested.

When I first watched this movie, I didn't love Disney especially the classics, but after watching it, I admired how real and appealing it was. I can thank the people making this film because this is one of Disney's crowning achievements in their entire company.

10/10

That was a fun ride. I hope you liked my rankings. I'm one of those people who don't go on disliking these types of films. After watching all 6 of these, I would say that it isn't one of the most loved out of the entire eras, but man, having The Andrews Sisters and Bing Crosby in one of these movies is something I never imagined Disney would do and it actually worked.

Next I will be ranking all the silver age disney movies. This will be interesting because I never watched any of these movies except for Alice In Wonderland so that will be an interesting experience. I will start watching Cinderella and then move forward this week.

That's all for now. Have a good day and I will see you next time or for more fun, just look at my other posts. 👍
