Sleeping Tom and A Pest In The House

 

I made a new character. His name is Sleeping Tom. As you might know already, he is obsessed with sleep, he sleeps as a hobby.

His name is supposed to be a pun for "Peeping Tom" which by the way is an inappropriate thing to be.

Don't be a peeping tom. Be a sleeping tom.

There's this cartoon called A Pest In The House (1947) it's a Looney Tunes short and it is hilarious. It was also released on my birthday so that's nice.

There's this person who is obsessed to take a nap like Sleeping Tom does. 

When he talks to Elmer, he seems to be soft and accepted about being in the hotel until he says something about being disturbed. This dude is not fooling around. 

The 40s especially the late 40s, Daffy Duck was at his best. This is directed by Chuck Jones and I really liked his animation this time period. The 50s and 60s were kinda more stiff in my opinion.

Not only that, but the color scheme is gorgeous.

This cartoon has had an influence on me since the very beginning when I first experienced it. When I first watched this short, I thought it was the most relatable Looney Tunes cartoon. And I still think it is today.

I love this guy's facial expression in this frame. 

This was when Daffy was messing with his clothes. Honestly, you can tell that he's pissed off and looks like he's about to strangle Daffy but that's not the answer.

He finds a bed. Good for him. At first I thought he was going to kick him out the door.

You can just feel how relaxed he is. Most people when they go to a hotel, they have fun and do activities, but you get this guy sleeping all day. I love it.

Of course whenever he hears noise, he makes some more funny expressions. 

Daffy's animation in this cartoon is stellar. These are such beautiful smears!

Just like with my character Sleeping Tom, this guy doesn't know what the heck he's seeing even though he admits he doesn't want to be disturbed like earlier.

He does make one of the best punches in cartoon history. This scene when Elmer picks up the phone and the guy punches him is an excellent bit.

Chuck Jones himself made some relatable and funny cartoons. I might not love all of his work but this time period was Jones at his most sentient. 

A Pest In The House is an overlooked masterpiece and one that I didn't give enough credit for. 

And as for our pal, Tom

He looks as bored as ever. 

He's basically the opposite of Little Critter from the book Just Go To Bed.

Now remember, if you ever end up in Artmania someday and you come across Sleeping Tom. Always know that he doesn't like noise. He hates when you sleep near him, he doesn't like to party, but for such a healthy clean boy, he likes to do his everyday life in peace.

I have had so much fun experiencing classic cartoons. They feel so lively and full of spirit. I would say everyone in the entire world has one classic cartoon they like.
