My humor mostly comes from physical comedy, verbal wit and slapstick while also liking some satire.
I love Spongebob, the writing in the classic seasons were fantastic, other mentions are of course Looney Tunes and The Three Stooges + The Road To movies, Abbott and Costello, The Muppets, Malcolm In The Middle, Seinfeld, The Marx Bros, Season 1 Ren and Stimpy, Mack Sennett Comedies, Laurel and Hardy, The Flintstones, Tom and Jerry. I also love alot YouTube channels. I often relate to Caddicarus, and Frank James as well as comics like Garfield and Mo Willems books are very funny.
I try to be motivated by the more serious and deep complex shows and while I think most I have seen were good, or at least passable, I never found it to be inspiring to me.
I like a good old story or adventure, but it would've been a more interesting watch if the characters had reliable and top-notch personalities. Movies like Aladdin, Pocahontas, the Ma and Pa Kettle movies and any movies starring Astaire, Crosby and Kelly wouldn't have been amusing or watchable at all if it wasn't for them.
What I invent, what I draw, what I create, always has to do with an inspiration of mine, because without them, I would feel bored and empty. I can't imagine a world without knowledge, it would've been terrible. Glad we have TV, pens and pencils, paper and books.
I always thought simple humor was better than dark comedy or sort of inappropriate jokes.
Duck Amuck is my 2nd favorite Looney Tunes cartoon, and Hellzapoppin' is my all-time favorite movie. Both these films have verbal wit and actual good writing to them.
What I love most about Duck Amuck is that it mostly is all Daffy. He's in alot of different scenarios, even the paint brush has personality, and every gag hits because we can focus and appreciate the cynical almost jerky personality of Daffy's presence.
Hellzapoppin' is ultimately perfect because all the characters are "real". In my opinion, the first 20 minutes, may so called first act is unbeatable. The movie isn't your standard 5/10 romance where they have overly talkative cast of characters and the same kissing and melodramatic pauses, this movie has characters that are in equal ways creative, and straightforward. The humor is extremely smart, and the songs are full of bubbly spirit. I keep coming back to the film, just to get the feel of the jokes, and I'll never get sick of it. It's free on YouTube by the way, go see it.
I really think that my creativity grasped alot more with films like that and I keep on improving my writing and characters because of it.
Here's one sketch I did with my dog character, Rodney. He's exploring through a haunted mansion until he sees an old cake. This was inspired by that one funny scene in Seinfeld where Elaine eats a $29,000 cake from 1937. I love that episode, in fact I watched it a few weeks ago.
I also loved those spooky shorts from The Three Stooges like Spook Louder, Who Done It, and Idle Roomers. I would imagine making myself something like those.
I was almost going to make another post talking about what it's like to be an animator, but this was fine enough. If you want to talk about my thoughts on that subject though here are the remaining 4 parts.
